Artist Info
Xavier Rudd
Born and bred at Bells Beach, Victoria, Xavier Rudd splits his time between Canada and Australia when not on tour. A self-styled, one-man blues and roots band, he has developed a style of performance that allows him to play the didgeridoo, guitar and percussion simultaneously. His acoustic-based sound draws influence from folk, reggae, rock and world music. When on stage he surrounds himself with an array of instruments, all of which he plays.
Rudd's live performances are reputed for their energy and diversity, and have made him a staple of the festival circuit. His musical style has found a niche in the grassroots music-with-a-message culture. His socially conscious lyrics are particularly passionate in support of environmental conservation and respecting Indigenous Australians.
Rudd released his first album, To Let, in 2002 and hit the Australian charts in 2004 with Solace. His third album, Food in the Belly, earned a nomination for best blues and roots album at the 2006 ARIA Music Awards. In late 2007 Rudd released his fourth studio album, White Moth, which was well received in Australia and cemented his following in the US.
